Cancer is the rapid growth of abnoral cells.

When you are older, these cells reproduce slower.

It would appear that we know little about cancer, and are still doing barberic things like radiation, however, we are gettting really good at radiation and can localize it.

Since I dont know you...I'll be honest....People tend to get a little bit overzellous about winning the war on cancer, and do something stupid to cause a premature death, when their body has been weaked by the cancer. It is not the time to go motorcycle riding, or not pay attention to personal hygine around your colostomy bag. Or not taking a minor leg injury serious, this is the time that an infection will kill you.

(I worked on the frindge of nuclear medicine). It's sad to say, but too many people die from just that.

It is a very goodquestion. In your body about 100 trillion cells are there. Out of these 25 trillion red blood cells have no nucleus in it and they do not divide. And about 100 billion nerve cells do not divide. Rest of the cells go on dividing and they make exact replica of DNA. There are about 60 billion base pairs in each cells. So if you multiply them horrible number comes to you. So many times errors occur during cell division. Such abnormal cells are identified by immune system of body and target cells are destroyed. Now actually, you should wonder, why cancer do not occur routinely. But then immune system works with remarkable accuracy. It can identify change in single amine acid offensively in long term. In our body genes are there and our knowledge about there interaction with each other is very poor. There are about 20,000 to 25,000 genes in our body. You draw 20,000 points in a circle and connect each of them and count the number of lines. So as age advances, immune system gets less and less efficient like all organs of body. So at time, it fails to identify damage of tumorsuppressinggene/genes. (Immunity does not identify the defective gene/gene but fails to identify defective protein/proteins produced by defective gene/genes.) There may be 'hole' in immune system, which go on widening as age advances. Like you do not 'see' the area in visual field where optic nerve leaves the retina and you dot note this 'blind spot'. Then such cell perceive messages in altered way or more of less 'mad' person like. If there perception is not much altered, they grow slowly and called as 'Benign tumors'. Which are slow growing. If they go out of control, grows faster, growth is purposeless, without regards to nearby cells, they consume most of the energy by 'glycolysis', robbing other cells of nutrition and they metastasize. Such cells are called cancer cells. immune system of body issurprisingly efficient and kills the abnormal cells. Then the role of carcinogens like smoking. They form abnormal Adenine, Guanine, cytosine and thymine very frequently. There by increasing the burden on immunity. More the the targets to identify, more are the chances of making mistakes. Some area of body is frequently rubbed, then body has to form more cells. And chances of making mistake in duplication as well as chances of making mistake in identification in mistake increases. Cancer cells are 'mad' because they look for short term gain at theexpense of long term loss. Once they kill the host, they also perish.

What is a cancer?

Cancer cell are responsible for causing cancer. The cancer cells are body cells with excess, defective, uncontrollable multiplication or in similar words.. replication!! Well this is the problem! As our bodies immune system comprises of several different cells and proteins that generally recognize and attack

any molecules that are 'foreign' to our body, such as viruses or toxins. However, those cancer cells which develop and we then become aware that there is a problem, in that cancer is diagnosed, is due to those particular cancerous cells / tumours have developed mechanisms to avoid detection by the immune system. As a result, our immune system sees these cancerous cells as not being foreign and therefore fail to attack this cancerous growth.

Developing ones immune system, although it would not hurt, will do very little to get rid of these cancers which are not recognised by our bodies as being foreign. In fact some so called natural remedies such as high doses of Vitamin C, can in fact be extremely harmful and in some instances feed and promote the growth of certain cancers!

The answer is really to find a way to overcome some of tumour defence mechanisms and structure so that our immune system will have a chance to fight back (this is where some chemo and radiation tries to assist by destroying some of these cancerous cells). Doing so it may be possible for our bodies to cure themselves of cancer.
