A thumbtack is a small metal object that consists of a parabola with a short, pointy metal spike protruding from its vertex. It is used to temporarily affix paper to an appropriate surface, especially a bulletin board. It recent years, its popularity has waned and it has largely been replaced by pushpins, which are similar objects with a different shape that use more plastic than metal.
The metal is probably worth more than the paper. But in terms of legal tender, they do indeed both have the same purchasing power.
Fold the paper in half.
Imagine a square of paper (or carpet, lino, metal....whatever) which measures just about 173cm along each side. That square of material is 3 square metres in size. That's how much :o)

No, paper is made of wood.
Paper does not burn when in contact with metal because metal is a good conductor of heat. When the heat is applied to the metal, it quickly dissipates and does not get transferred to the paper in sufficient quantity to ignite it. Additionally, the low melting point of paper prevents it from catching fire when in contact with hot metal.
