Major part of the respiratory system is the lung. Lungs are located inside the rib cage. It is called a cage for a reason - ribs surround the lungs on the sides and any impact is taken by the ribs rather then the lungs directly.
The skeletal system supports the body, aids in movement (also breathing), protects vital organs and the brain, and produces red and white blood cells (in the bone marrow).
The respiratory system has primary responsibility for breathing, but it could not accomplish this function without the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems.
Mostly as a structural support. It is what the muscles attach to, to allow movement, breathing, etc.
The skull belongs to the skeletal system.
The skeletal system itself is an organ system. Some schemes combine the skeletal system with the muscular system to make the musculoskeletal system.
