The way it came out....
The thermostat spring always faces the engine block and not toward the radiator hose.The spring end of the thermostat faces into the engine.
Could be, sticky thermostat or low coolant level.
Thermostat is on the back of the cyl head up at the bulkhead, follow top rad hose back and you will find thermostat housing.
A thermostat that was stuck then suddenly became unstuck might do that. If the coolant level and the rest of the cooling system seem OK, try replacing the thermostat.
Follow the top hose back to the thermostat housing.
Follow the upper radiator hose back to the engine, it is connected to the thermostat housing on the engine. The thermostat is located under the thermostat housing.

If you trace back from the upper radiator hose, it will be a two bolt connection back at engine (thermostat manifold).
