Initially using the x rays to scan layers of the area in question, with computer assisted tomography a computer then analyzes data of all layers to construct a 3D image of the object.
Computed Tomography was invented in 1967. Godgrey Hounsfield at EMI Ltd was researching pattern recognition and computer image reconstruction. He is considered the father of CT.
PET scan
Positrons are used for 'PET', a medical imaging tomography technique. The positrons are produced in the radioactive decay of Sodium 22.
Technically yes; but the amounts of anti-electrons (also called "positrons") is truly tiny. PET is an acronym for Positron Emission Tomography.
They only work with cross sectional area, not 3D. They are also not completely accurate because the resultant photons are not reflected in completely opposite directions, but have some margain of error.
positron emission tomography
Geophysical Tomography Group was created in 1985.
