No Vitiligo is not related to Albinism.

  • Albinism is of two types
  1. the whole body including the eyes, the retina, the skin and the hair, all melanin containing areas of the body are involved
  2. affects the eyes only
  • Albinism is present at birth while Vitiligo is not.
  • Albinism is a stable disorder which does not spread or improve while Vitiligo can progress or improve on its own

I am diagnosed with Vitiligo, and it is basically when Your immune system creates antibodies that kill melanocytes, which give color to your skin and hair and eyes. The melanocytes located in your eyes are in the middle layer and it is very rare for Vitiligo to change eye and hair color. My hair has a silver streak from a Vitiligo spots, but generally Vitiligo covers the hands and feet first.

Both vitiligo and albinism leave the body with white unprotected skin. This lack of color is due to low levels or the complete lack of melatonin.
