Water kills sperm by drowning them-

Not exactly- sperm live in fluid (called semen) so they can't really 'drown' in water.

But, water does not contain the nutrients and salts that the semen contains, so when the sperm cells hit a diluted hypotonic solution such as water, they can swell up, burst and die.
