Laundry detergents work by way of certain chemical components in their formula called surfactants. These molecules interact with two type of surfaces, one water and the other being oil and dirt. The surfactants attach on one side to what needs to be cleaned out of clothing and the other to the water and are then washed away, leaving the material cleaned.
