Any constellation is a group of stars that appear to form some kind of pattern,

but have no connection with each other. They all happen to be in roughly the

same direction from us, but they're all at different distances. So there's no

such thing as a constellation's distance from us.

How far is cetus?

Cetus is a constellation, not a single star. Stars in the constellation can be from 8.73 (nearest) to 13,000 (furthest) light years away.

What is the distance from earth and the constellation perseus?

You can't really say how far a constellation is. A constellation is just a group of stars, and even though the stars in a constellation look close together in the sky, in reality they might be very far from each other. Some of the stars could be relatively close to us, and some much farther away. Really, the only question you can answer is how far from earth is each individual star in Perseus is.

How far away is the Crater constellation from earth?

Like all constellations, they are made up of stars - each one it's own unique distance from Earth. Therefor a constellation isn't a specific distance from Earth.

How far away is the galaxy Orion from earth?

Orion is a constellation, not a galaxy. The stars in it appear to form a pattern but they are not a unit and they are all completely different distances away. So there is no definitive distance that you can say Orion is away from us. You can only talk about the distance of individual stars that are in it.

How big is the Orion constellation in miles?

The thing is, when we look at Orion we are only looking at a projection. We can see the directions of the stars but we can't see how far away they are. Therefore some of the stars in Orion are close, other are very far away, so it's impossible to say they are grouped together in a volume of space.

How far away from earth is the Leo?

If you mean the constellation Leo: That is only a general direction in the sky, and some stars in that direction. The phantasy of the ancients made a lion out of it - hence the name. The individual stars in any constellation are at very different distances; ranging from a few light-years, to thousands of light years. If you look through a more powerful telescope, you will see galaxies, at distances of a few hundred thousands light years, up to billions of light years (depending on how powerful the telescope is).

How far apart are the stars of Leo the lion?

Thinks of a constellation as being, basically, a direction in space - the stars are not related one to another. So, some of the stars in that direction are billions of light-years away from us, and of course, billions of light-years away from the nearer stars.

What is Leos gravity?

If, by Leo, you mean the constellation Leo, then it has no noticeable gravity. Leo is a constellation, not a single star. The constellation contains a very large number of stars and other cosmic objects which have no astrophysical relationship with one another. It is simply that they are located in such a direction, and are so far away, that they appear to move together. The distances to the cosmic objects that make up Leo range from 7.78 light years to 6,653 light years.

How far away is the Leo constellation from the earth?

The stars in each constellation are at varying distances from our solar system. The star Wolf 359, one of the nearest stars to Earth (7.78 light-years), is in Leo. Gliese 436, a faint star in Leo about 33 light years away. So to answer your question, the constellation Leo is spread out between 7 to 33 light years away. Light travels about 6 trillion miles in one year, so between 42 trillion and 198 trillion miles away.

Why cant you see stars being born in the Orion constellation?

Because they're too far away

How far away is Gemini from earth?

The stars in any constellation all tend to be different distances from us. They just appear as a pattern as we look at them. Of the stars in Gemini, the nearest is 33.7 lightyears away. That is about 318,826,616,925,973 kilometres or 198,109,675,076,288 miles away.

How far is the closest constellation?

the closest constellation is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 light years away.

Are the stars that make up a constellation actually close to one another?

No, not usually. At least as far away from each other as our Sun is to its closest star.

Are stars in the constellation physically close to each other?

No, they are not. They are in lines of sight which are close to each other and they are all so far away that they do not appear to move very much relative to one another. But in most constellations some stars are likely to by hundreds, if not millions, of times as far away than the nearest stars.
