It took them 2 and a half years
180 miles in 4 days
Harold Godwinson and Harald Hardrada, fought in the Stamford bridge battle. Then Harold then had to walk all the way south of the country, until he got to the battle of hastings place. ( i don't no where it was fought, i think it was in hastings ) Harold had lost most of his well trained men and was really tired from walking all that way so he was tired for the battle of hastings. So supposedly, that's 2 of the reasons he lost.
Harold was very unlucky because after coming back to fight Harald Hardrada and the vikings. He met the Normans at a place later called Battle. Harold's men were very tired and exhausted and they definitely weren't ready to fight again so soon. There was also fewer soldiers ( because of the battle at Stamford Bridge ) and the Normans had 2000 men on horseback.
Well, the history books say his army walked 50 miles* a day and the distance between the two points is just over 400 miles so about 8 and a bit days. *Twice the amount the roman army would march per day.
Harold Godwinson were on a hill and they could see everyone but William could not because they were at the bottom of the hill so they had to walk right up the hill. Harold had more men but William had horses.and there is much more just like william had trained fighting soldier.
By George Wappett Harold Godwinson had 500 Housecarls armoured with helmets and mail hauberkswho were professional and highly trained horsemen who wielded the great Danish axes. The remainder of his army was equipped with spears, swords, slings, and maces. In defense emergencies peasants were called upon to fight as infantry, not as well armed. The main defensive formation was a shield wall.
