how do we know about the earth's layers when we never drilled that far down?
The distance will vary in different places. Some may be 5km or even 50 km.
humans effect the ocean because of littering, pollution, oil spills & fishing.
The asthenosphere is the layer of Earth that lies at a depth 60-150 mi (100-250 km) beneath Earth's surface.
The movies differ from the Verne Novel. There is essentially Professor Lindenbrook- the Scientist and head of the expedition, his assistant, who was miscast as Pat Boone in the movie- which was fine for several songs having nothing to do with the plot lines- The Female character- who is the widow of some explorer- and is bankrolling the expedition- there are no girl characters in the Verne novel- I"m glad Hollywood brought one in- The Bad Guy scientist- also with a Scandinavian name- and the muscular Lars who is the handy-man of the Expedition.- Oh yes, Bad guy was only ever referred to as 'Count Sagnussen'. These same characters existed in the TV Cartoon by Donald Sutherland- and pretty good for its type. Gertrude the Duck remained alive as a comedy interest in the cartoon- the duck was killed and eaten by the bad guy in the movie. The scientists work out of Edinburgh University, which is in Scotland, in spite of the Scandinavian names. I met Arlene Dahl last year at the Loew"s showing. Rate of increase l00O a minute ( from the bathtub escape craft!- we:re outta here! indeed. In both the book and the 1959 film the explorers escaped via what they termed 'the alter stone' which was really a large bowl. In the later movie they escaped using the skull of a dinosaur.

Humans have not yet mapped that far out in the universe

1 mile
When the Apollo astronauts were in orbit around the moon they were the furthest any human had been from the earth.
Because people have been far down and we have special tools to see down into the earth.
No. As far as scientists can tell, humans are the smartest animals on Earth. Crows and ravens are believed to be the smartest birds.
So far the farthest down someones gone is 12 km.
The crust which is about 7 miles thick contains the all of the element metals we have discovered so far because no one has ever drilled all the way through the crust.
