The distance between the above mentioned places is 1190 km approximately. The distance is straight path from one place to another place. There might be slight difference between the actual distance and the above mentioned distance because of the route chosen.

We just went to Belize during Christmas from Roatan and I can tell you it is not easy to get there but no horrible either.

We took Taca airlines and went to San Pedro Sula, then San Salvador and then finally Belize city. From Belize city we took a small plane to Ambergris Caye which was less than 30 minutes.

The entire trip took pretty much the whole day. We left Roatan at 1120am and finally arrived in Ambergris Caye close to 5 pm.

You can take a 1 hour boat ride from Belize city to Ambergris Caye but the 30 minute flight was cheap and easy, especially when hauling luggage.

All that being said, I would have to say it was a fun trip but I prefer the beauty of Roatan. To be fair we spent most of our time in Ambergris and only took 1 day to see the mainland and also we snorkel and do not dive, so others experiences may differ.

P.s. If staying on Ambergris Caye, expect grocery store prices 2 to 3 times higher than Roatan...again this was our experience in Dec 2010 and just our "two cents."
