The USGS reported that the quake shifted portions of northeastern Japan by as much as 2.4 m (7.9 ft) closer to North America and made portions of Japan's landmass wider than before. This was a result of the 9.0 magnitude earthquake on March 11, 2011.

no ther wasnt an earthquake that i know of in jersey city but there was an aftershock from an earthquake from virginia felt in jersey city. the aftershock was in august 2011 but not sure what date. i think it was the 28. i know this because i actually felt it :)

According to the US Geological survey the Haitian Earthquake had the capacity to cause some minor structural damage to buildings as far away as 300 km from the Earthquakes epicentre (level V or 5 on the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale. It was felt by humans as far away as Guantanamo in Cuba (level III or 3 on the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale) and would most likely have been detected by seismometers all over the world.
