No, Falstaff is not the real hero of any play he is in. In Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 the hero/ protagonist is Prince Hal. In Merry Wives of Windsor the situation is more complex, but the herolike characters are really Mrs. Ford and Mrs. Page. Falstaff, although he may be considered the main character of that play, is consistently thwarted and defeated by the efforts of the wives. Falstaff was always one of Shakespeare's most popular characters, especialy because he does not have the qualities of a hero in any way.
