The basics of astronomy are not difficult. There are lots of easy things to learn. So it is a subject that you can start to learn quite easy. There are very complicated parts, but it isn't necessary to know all of them to have a reasonable knowledge of astronomy. You can learn the more complicated things later if you have the interest.
