She hasn't except for the legends about her. The book that Smith wrote was all lies and he never met her. In fact, her real story is much more interesting than the fairytales about her. The colonists took her hostage for 4 years and while she was a hostage she became a Christian and changed her name to Rebecca. John Rolf came to Jamestown with his tobacco seeds and met her. They married and left for England. She is about 19 years old when they leave and while at his family estate she has a baby boy. Not long after she dies and he takes the baby to his sister to take care of and leaves for Jamestown. Years later the baby as a young man decides to go back to Jamestown where he has property he has inherited from his mother, grandfather, and father. He returns to Jamestown, marries, has 6 children and the last known historical reference to him is when he is 90 years old and he signs over the property he inherited to the city of Jamestown. I think this is a fantastic true story and so much better than the silly fable about her.

Pocahontas has had an impact on others lives because she was the first one to have an actual bond with one of the white settlers. That led to her leading everyone into this wonderful change.
