The largest sand dune in the world is in the Sechura Desert in Peru. It is 1176 m (3858 ft) -- an extraordinary height, especially when considering that the next tallest is less than half of that height (550 m).

However, even higher is the Duna Federico Kirbus, in the Fiambalá Basin of Argentina. Originally estimated at a height of 800 meters (2600 ft), it has been measured to 1230 meters (4000 ft) above its base at an elevation of about 5300 feet. Rather than the stereotypical peaked dunes, the sand is being blown up the steep western faces of the adjacent mountains.

There is a table on Wikipedia that sums up the world's tallest dunes.

The world's largest sand bar is the Florida peninsula. In ancient times what is now the Appalachacola river was larger by volume than the present day Mississippi river. The runoff from the erosion of the Appalacian mountains over the course of many millions of years formed the peninsula we now call Florida.

What and where are the biggest sand dunes in the world?

There are three contenders for the title of the world's highest sand dune, and it depends upon the context - whether one means the highest in actual sand dune size, or the highest above sea level.According to some sources, the world's highest sand dune is the Cerro Blanco dune in the Sechura Desert, Nazca, Peru. However, according to the Namibian Ministry of Environment & Tourism, the highest dune in the world is called Big Daddy, or Dune 7, and is one of the Sossusvlei dunes in the Namib Desert. However, according to the website link below (Duneguide), the highest sand dune may well be the humble Mt Tempest on Moreton Island, just off the coast of southern Queensland, Australia. The second largest sand mass in the world, Mt Tempest reaches 280m above sea level, and it is all sand.
