which is elected through free, open elections, which are monitored and

supervised by the relevant watchdog-organizations and found to be in full

keeping with international democratic standards. It's also a democracy in that it

has no ethnic or religious restrictions or qualifications for voting-rights.

In its modern incarnation, the State of Israel has officially been a parliamentary republic since its establishment as a sovereign country on 14 May 1948. Israel's system of government was, at least in part, inspired by the United Kingdom's Westminster-style politics, having declared independence shortly before the British Mandate of Palestine was set to expire.
