Venus rotates clockwise while most other planets in the Solar System rotate counter-clockwise. Astronomers speculate that this is because the planet's tidal effects in its dense atmosphere could've reversed its rotation billions of years ago. The only other planet in the Solar System that rotates unusually is Uranus.

Venus has a retrograde rotation. A retrograde rotation is the clockwise spin of a planet or moon as seen from above the planet's North Pole. Venus and Uranus are the only planets with a retrograde rotation. Mercury, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune all have pro-grade rotation which is the counterclockwise spin of a planet or moon as seen from above a planets North Pole.

A good way to remember which planets have a retrograde rotation is that only planets which names end in "nus" have this type of rotation.
