hold it horizontally on the right side of your head. Have you left hand on the top keys with the back of your hand facing away from you, and have your right hand on the lower keys with the back of your hand facing behind you (opposite of left hand)

First, you must put your lip on the hole in the top HALFWAY. Then you must put your left hand around the Flute: your first finger wrapped around the flute, your second the same way, except two notes away from your first finger, on the first note. Your third finger goes on the next note, and your thumb on the two connected notes on the bottom. your right hand turns the opposite way of the left, and then you let your fingers follow the notes. ( the left pinky finger is not used until sharps or flats. the right one will go on the first of three connected notes slightly to the side)
