This varies slightly from place to place.

The pelvic CT may require you to drink an oral preparation before the test and it may require an injection into a vein in your arm. This depends on what the doctor wants to see on your test. Your doctor will make an order telling the CT technologist what he wants or he may already have routine orders in place for what he wants for a certain test. The patient lays on the CT scan table for usually less than 10 minutes and newer machines may be less than 5 minutes. There are a few rare CT scans that may take longer or might require you to get rescanned after a certain time length. All of the above should be altered to what will give you the best scan.

Will a septum ring show up in a CT scan?

A septum ring will not show up in a CT scan because the jewellery will be removed before the scan is done. CT's and MRI's require that all jewellery be removed before the scans are done. This is standard hospital protocol and is not open to debate by the subject getting the scan.

Can you eat prior to drinking for abdomen ct scan?

We usually ask you not eat 4 to 8 hours prior to getting a CT scan of anything in the abdominal or pelvic area. (the time difference depends on protocol of your doctor and the place doing the CT scan) There are exceptions and depends on what the doctor wants to see. You may always call the place doing your CT and talk to the CT technologist. (the person who answers the phone may not know)

What is instatrak CT?

An InstaTrak CT refers to a CT or CAT scan, usually of the sinuses, which is done prior to performing a sinus surgery in which the surgeon will use the InstaTrak Surgical Navigation System. Although the majority of CT scans for the InstaTrak are done for sinus surgery, some Neurosurgeons will order a CT scan for a brain surgery. This is usually rare because for most brain surgeries, the surgeon will utilize an MRI scan with The InstaTrak which will typically show the detail of the softer brain tissues better for the surgeon.
