Polar bears have adapted to the ice and tundra due to the fat layers that are under their skin and extremely thick fur. A polar bear is white so that it can blend in to it's environment and have protection from predators, and can not easily be spotted by prey.
They live off of fat stored in their bodies during the summer months that they spend on the tundra. They may occasionally snag a lemming or a caribou, but usually summer is a time of fasting for the polar bear. When winter comes and the sea ice freezes over they move out onto the sea ice to hunt seals and walrus.
Their skin is actually black, under their white fur, to help keep in the warmth from the sun. They have short but sharp claws, and pads on their feet to help them catch fish

Tundra
Polar bears are adapted to live in such a cold climate as they have a thick furry coat over them which keeps them warm. If they did not have that coat the polar bears would freeze to death.
