How a river is formed?

Water rubs on land surface and causes erosion, or breaking down of the rock, causing a deepness to the land appearing, and in turn creating a stream that moves often downstream to usually a delta or larger body of water.

For younger kids (Ask your parents first before doing this):

Ask your parent where you can make marks in dirt / soil, the land outside your house.

• First: Find a small stick. Fill a plastic or paper cup with water.
  
• Second: Take these to the spot where you are allowed to play in the dirt / soil.
  
• Third, find a spot where the dirt is tightly packed, not very loose. Use the stick to draw a "line". Keep moving the stick until you have made a "dry river bed". Leave in a few tiny pebbles along the edges, if you can. You can also make one part of the line a little deeper, but not much or the next part won't work right.
  
• Fourth, go to one end of the "line" you made, preferably the end that is higher than the other end. Creeks, streams, and rivers typically flow from highest ground to lowest ground.
  
• Fifth---- slowly pour the water into your "river" at the highest point. You will see dirt suck up some water--that is okay; rivers do that, too. Notice how the water flows downward along and through the channel you made, just like a river channel does with water it carries.
