Jellyfish are simply collections of biological cells with no brain and no circulation. There are no genders of jellyfish (like man or woman). Some have the protection of releasing a stinging liquid when they are brushed up against.
Octopods are much higher-order animals having an eye, a beak, 8 tentacles that can be as gentle as a breeze, or as strong as a brute. Octopods are actually very intelligent, and can work out solution to puzzling situations.
Octopods can protect themselves from enemies by releasing a cloud of brownish "ink" that is uncomfortable to the predator, meanwhile hiding the octopod while he/she escapes.
Another protection of many octopods is their strange ability to change color and pattern, and to change shape to match the ocean floor where they currently are, as well as arranging their tentacles in shapes that predators take for a dangerous fish of some kind. Octopods are amazing creatures and range from thumbnail size up to the giant 30-foot species.
It is true that sea stars and jellyfish are both inverts, however they differ in many many many ways. Jellyfish are pelagic and free swimming for one, while sea stars are benthic, living on substrate, and locomote via many tubefeet. Jellyfish have long stinging tentacles equipped with nematocysts for defense, whereas sea stars lack stinging tentacles. Sea stars are echinoderms meaning "spiny skin" and jellyfish are cnidarians from the greek cnidos meaning nettle. There are MANY more differences, these are only a few
