What is the Difference between an oxidizing agent and reducing agent?

An oxidizing agent oxidizes the reducing agent, while the reducing agent reduces the oxidizing agent. In simple terms, both processes occur simultaneously. Oxidizing is defined as: the gain of oxygen, loss of hydrogen or loss of electrons. E.g.: C + O2 -> CO2 In this case oxygen would be the oxidizing agent as it supplies oxygen to the carbon. Similarly carbon would be the reducing agent in this case.

Is nitrous acid an oxidizing agent or reducing agent?

it is both oxidizing as well as reducing agent

Is nitric acid an oxidising agent?

No. Hydrogen gas is generally a reducing agent.

Is sulphuric acid an oxdising or a reducing agent?

Sulfuric acid can act as both as an oxidizing agent as well as a reducing agent. It has hydrogen and sulfur which can be reduced, and oxygen which can be oxidized.

Why phosphoric acid is not reducing agent?

It is an oxy acid which may act as an oxidizing agent, reducing agents are those which may produce atomic hydrogen or hydride ion.

Is nitrogen an oxidizing agent or a reducing agent?

Reducing

Is hydrogen peroxide dangeorus?

Higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide may be considered hazardous and are typically accompanied by a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). In high concentrations, hydrogen peroxide is an aggressive oxidizer and will corrode many materials, including human skin. In the presence of a reducing agent, high concentrations of H2O2 will react violently.

When hydrogen reacts with metal-oxides it act as reducing agent or a oxidizing agent?

It reduces the oxides acting as a reducing agent.

Is it possible to use hydrogen as a reducing agent for ion oxide to get the metal iron?

No. On the contrary - iron will reduce hydrogen oxide to hydrogen

Is oxygen the oxidizing agent in combustion and the reducing agent in corrosion?

oxygen is the oxidizing agent in both corrosion and combustion

NAD is a reducing agent or oxidizing agent?

NAD+ is a common biological oxidizing agent used as a coenzyme.for ex: in the dehydrogenation of the lactate (The removal of two hydrogen atoms) to form pyruvate, the NAD+ serves as an enzyme cofactor (or coenzyme) that oxidize lactate to pyruvate.

Zn plus H2SO4 as an oxidizing agent?

Zn alone is a reducing agent because it donates electrons during a reaction and H2SO4 alone is an oxidizing agent because it may donates atomic oxygen during the reaction but (Zn + H2SO4) mixture is a reducing agent because this mixture may produce atomic hydrogen during a reaction.
