Either melt the magnesium and run a fairly strong current through it, or use a very strong reducing agent (alkali metal) with the magnesium oxide in some form of solution (but not in water, obviously).
Alkali metals cannot be used to reduce magnesium oxide. Their oxides can be easily reduced to metals by magnesium.
M2O + Mg -> MgO + 2M (Li-Cs).
By magnesium reacting with oxygen.
Mostly its heating or burning it which causes a white powder- magnesium oxide.
I am pretty sure there are many ways in which magnesium oxide can form but thes e are the main two;
2Mg+ O2 = 2MgO
Mg + H2O (g) = MgO + H2
2Mg + O2 --> MgO
Oxygen oxidizes the Mg to Mg2+, which in turn reacts with oxygen to form MgO
Magnesium and oxygen
the white ash is the chemial product produced when Mg is reacted with oxide.There the white ash is MgO(magnesuim oxide)
The magnesium oxide (MgO) is obtained and water vapours released.
- Epsom salt is a natural product - Magnesium sulfate can be obtained as the product of the reactions between sulfuric acid and magnesium carbonate (or magnesium oxide)
Magnesium is an element. Magnesium oxide is a compound formed from magnesium and oxygen. Magnesium oxide often serves as a magnesium supplement.
the white powder is magnesium oxide. Magnesium burns in air with a dazzling white light to produce magnesium oxide. the equation is- 2Mg + O2 = 2MgO
After burning of magnesium MgO (magnesium oxide) is obtained.

Magnesium (Mg) was first obtained by English chemist Sir Humphry Davy in 1808. He produced it from the electrolysis of a mixture of magnesium oxide and mercuric oxide.
It is a compound.
Magnesium Oxide
This compound is magnesium oxide - MgO.
- Epsom salt is a natural product - Magnesium sulfate can be obtained as the product of the reactions between sulfuric acid and magnesium carbonate (or magnesium oxide)
Magnesium + copper oxide --> magnesium oxide + copper
The chemical equation is:2 MgSO4 + 2 MgO + 2 SO2 + O2It is a thermal decomposition reaction.
