1. We divert all water straight to a river using drains and gutters, where naturally it would take a lot longer to get to the nearest river therefore the river fills up more than it would naturally

2. We tarmac and concrete everything, therefore limiting the amount of water that can soak into the ground, again going to the nearest river.

3. We cut down forests which allows soil to run off into the river, therefore raising the river bed which can make floods more common.

4. We tend to straighten rivers to help control flooding but further downstream the water suddenly slows down causing flooding.

When should an inventory of an ecosystem be taken?

An inventory of an ecosystem should ideally be taken on a regular basis to monitor changes over time. However, it is especially important to conduct an inventory when there are significant disturbances or changes to the ecosystem, such as a natural disaster or human activities that may have a significant impact on the biodiversity and functioning of the ecosystem.

How does water pollution affect the ecosystem?

Water pollution effects the ecosystem in many ways. One way is that it kills many aquatic plants animals and plants, it has almost made some species endangered. Another way is that this polluted water is drank by many terristial animals and this many land animals also die. It also affects the balance of the ecosystem. Sometimes the pollution causes the wrong things to grow more than normal and upsets the natural balance. For instance, phosphates can be used to help boost cleaning. But they can make their way into the ocean. Certain algae grow even faster from the phosphates. Then the algae kills or competes with other organisms, and these may be organisms that coral reefs or fish need to survive.

Can an ecosystem overlap another ecosystem?

parts of ecosystems may be in another ecosystem, like say a evergreen pine tree was covered in water , or the land was flooded, that would be a part of land-based ecosystem in an aquatic ecosystem.

What are the consequences of River Pollution?

The consequences of river pollution are quite serious. Plants and animals in the river's ecosystem become damaged. If these are ingested by other animals, they may become ill, and even die off. If humans ingest these animal, they too may become ill. Not only will the river no longer be able to sustain life, it will be unsuitable for drinking, as well as start polluting whatever body of water the river drains into.
