School failure is related to delinquency in many different ways. One way comes through incompetent parents and administrators. When a child is more afraid of a gang than he is afraid of the consequences of not doing his homework or even going to school, he will fail. His failure is not due to his own delinquency but to that of other children. The solution would be for his parents to raise hell with the school board and have the incompetent administrator replaced for not making the way safe to school. If the school board refused to act, have the parent see a lawyer. An incompetent parent fails to act. Then there is the delinquent kid who refuses to do his own work. He refuses to turn in assignments joking around. This behavior may be announcing to the class that he may be a drug dealer. Being the class clown may serve a different purpose from disrupting class. He would rather fail than give up his profitable carrier. Then there is the kid who would rather hang out than go to school. He simply cuts school. He does not know why. Since he refuses to go, he fails. Some kids simply want to be a part of a gang. They hang around near or even in the school but do not go to class. It is more important to them to belong. A school system should be able to redo a bus or transportation system to give them such an opportunity to be part of a positive group rather than force the kids who feel so lonely to adjust to an arbitrary system. The kids drawn to a gang have a tough enough life as it is. For the school system or prison to say, you will adjust to us, or else, does not teach them how to behave like ordinary people. Sure, life is tough. Still, school should still teach people drawn toward gangs how to relate to normal people.
