Silt is NOT clay NOR sand.

Silt typically consists of the weathered/powdered form of feldspar and/or quartz.

Feldspar is a general term used for several different minerals. Feldspar minerals consists of some combination of Aluminum (Al), Silicon (Si), and Oxygen (O) along with either Potassium (K), Sodium (Na), or Calcium (Ca).

Quartz on the other hand, is composed only of some combination of Silicon (Si) and Oxygen (O).

Some Silts can break down into Clay.

Some Sands can break down into Silt.
