The Franklin stove of yesteryear works just like a wood stove of today. It is basically a fire place with a metal insert. The amount of wood needed and smoke created was reduced with this invention.

Yes it did, and worked very well. Read below.

A freestanding, enclosed, cast-iron stove, set on short legs with provision for air circulation around, over, and under its exterior surfaces; serves the function of a fireplace incorporating a grate; usually attributed to Benjamin Franklin. It is fuel efficient and superior to a fireplace as a means of heating a house because it is more fuel efficient and the source of heat is brought out into the room itself. The amount of heat the stove radiates can be controlled by regulating the draft through the stove by means of an adjustable opening in its front door.

Heats up places. Ben Franklin invented it because the original heater was very dangerous and did not heat up anyone or any thing. It also used alot of wood. Not enviromently friendly

What year did benjamin Franklin invent the Franklin stove?

Benjamin Franklin's stove was not the first, and there a number of much earlier designs. Which of these was the first stove depends on what is meant by the word stove. There are masonry and ceramic stoves that were older in Europe, and the Kang bed stove in China. But these did not provide the same utility as the Franklin stove. Today, the original Franklin stove would probably not be called a stove either, but rather a fireplace insert. The stoves sold as Franklin stoves are not the same design, and were developed by people who came after Franklin.
