simple answer: no. real answer: assume that it does not, then, the friction of the wheels against the ground will not exist, leaving your car to spin its wheels quite happly without going anywhere. on second thought, your wheels would probablly not be spinning either way as to power said conventional "mouse trap car" one would generally use a string wound around the rear or frontal axis. without said friction, said string would not attach to said axis. basically, you fail, at life and beyond. As observations contradict this thought experiment, the assumed lack of friction cannot exist. Thus, friction acts upon mousetrap cars and upon your thick skull as information is shoved upon it. Trains (and other vehicles that move rapidly through the air or water) are shaped to provide low resistance to movement. For vehicles that move through air, the smaller the front of the vehicle, the less resistance to air flow. If the front of the vehicle is blunt (like a flat wall), then when it moves, the air must flow around the wall on all sides. This causes the air to build up pressure in front as the wall pushes against the air. To reduce the pressure, if the vehicles is "stream-lined", or made to resemble a rain-drop shape, or an arrow shape, with a sharp point tapering back to a larger shape, then the air pressure in front of the vehicles is reduced, resulting in less power spent to overcome air resistance. Also, projections and things that stick out are eliminated or minimized to further reduce air friction.
