Answer:

Please note that the above is a Catholic answer. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are to (Corinthians 12:4-7) edification of Believers (the Body of Christ) and cause people to believe and and be saved. There are many, many things that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit do, they are not listed here.

Neither are the fruits of the Holy Spirit listed here.

For those answers, please look up the answers separately.

I think the only relationship is they are both from the Holy Spirit. Gifts are not given the same to every believer. All fruit is for every believer as the HS works in them, as they mature.

Galatians 5:22-23 The fruits of the Holy Spirit are: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. When you accept Christ the fruits of the Holy Spirit should start to show in your life, (sometimes it takes time).

When you receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (as in Acts 2) you may receive one or more of the following Gifts according to His will. The evidence is always speaking in tongues, even if it only happens once.

1 Corinthians 12:7

The nine Gifts of the Holy Spirit are

  1. The Word of Knowledge
  2. The Word of Wisdom
  3. The Gift of Prophecy
  4. The Gift of Faith
  5. The Gifts of Healing
  6. The Working of Miracles
  7. The Discerning of Spirits
  8. Different Kinds of Tongues
  9. The Interpretation of Tongues
They are all related because they are all from the Holy Spirit.

Read 1 Corinthians 12 for a good understanding of how they all work together for the Body of Christ.

* Wisdom- With the gift of wisdom, we see God at work in our lives and in the world. For the wise person, the wonders of nature, historical events, and the ups and downs of our lives take on deeper meaning. The matters of judgment about the truth, and being able to see the whole image of God.

  • Understanding - With the gift of understanding, we comprehend how we need to live as a follower of Jesus Christ. A person with understanding is not confused by all the conflicting messages in our culture about the right way to live. The gift of understanding perfects a person's speculative reason in the apprehension of truth. It is the gift whereby self-evident principles are known, Aquinas writes.
  • Counsel (Right Judgment) - With the gift of right judgment, we know the difference between right and wrong, and we choose to do what is right. A person with right judgment avoids sin and lives out the values taught by Jesus. The gift of truth that allows the person to respond prudently, and happily to believe our Christ the Lord
  • Fortitude (Courage) - With the gift of courage, we overcome our fear and are willing to take risks as a follower of Jesus. A person with courage is willing to stand up for what is right in the sight of God, even if it means accepting rejection, verbal abuse, or even physical harm and death. The gift of Courage allows people the firmness of mind that is required both in doing good and in enduring evil, especially with regard to goods or evils that are difficult.
  • Knowledge - With the gift of knowledge, we understand the meaning of God's Revelation, especially as expressed in the life and words of Jesus Christ. A person with knowledge is always learning more about the scriptures and Tradition. The gift of knowledge is more than an accumulation of facts.
  • Piety (Reverence) - With the gift of reverence, sometimes called piety, we have a deep sense of respect for God and the Church. A person with reverence recognizes our total reliance on God and comes before God with humility, trust, and love. Piety is the gift whereby, at the Holy Spirit's instigation, we pay worship and duty to God as our Father, Aquinas writes.
  • Fear of the Lord (Awe of God) - With the gift of wonder and awe you we are aware of the glory and majesty of God. A person with wonder and awe knows that God is the perfection of all we desire: perfect knowledge, perfect goodness, perfect power, and perfect love. This gift is described by Aquinas as a fear of separating oneself from God. He describes the gift as a "filial fear," like a child's fear of offending his father, rather than a "servile fear," that is, a fear of punishment. Also known as knowing God is all powerful. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom (Prov 1:7) because it puts our mindset in its correct location with respect to God: we are the finite, dependent creatures, and He is the infinite, all-powerful Creator.

Catholic AnswerThe Gifts of the Holy Spirit are seven forms of supernatural initiative conferred with the reception of sanctifying grace. They are in the nature of supernatural reflexes that spontaneously answer to the divine impulses of grace almost without reflection but always with full consent, they are wisdom, understanding, knowledge, fortitude or courage, counsel, piety or love, and fear of the Lord. (from Modern Catholic Dictionary). So the gifts are ways of acting and doing that we develop with the regular reception of grace - and, of course, acting upon them. While the fruits are more ways of being, so to speak - charity, joy, peace, patience, etc. (see below).

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, English translation 1994

III. The Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit

1830.The moral life of Christians is sustained by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These are permanent dispositions which make man docile in following the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

1831. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. They belong in their fullness to Christ, Son of David. (Cf. Isa 11:1-2) They complete and perfect the virtues of those who receive them. They make the faithful docile in readily obeying divine inspirations.

Let your good spirit lead me on a level path. (Ps.143:10)

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God . . . If children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ. (Rom 8:14, 17)

from

Modern Catholic Dictionary by John A. Hardon, S.J. Doubleday & Co., Inc. Garden City, NY 1980

Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Supernatural works that, according to St. Paul, manifest the presence of the Holy Spirit. The one who performs them recognizes God's presence by the happiness he experiences, and other the divine presence by witnessing these good works (Galatians 5:22-23). They are, in other words, identifiable effects of the Holy Spirit. In the Vulgate text they are: charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, longanimity, mildness, faith, modesty, continency, and chastity.

The Bible tells us that we all have spiritual gifts. It actually lists them. What you ask seems to me a Pentecostal type term of receiving the Holy Spirit(Holy Ghost) or being baptized in the Holy Spirit. This means you have received the power of the Holy Spirit to do things like heal, speak in tongues, etc. That would seem to be the "gift". The Holy Spirit is of and by itself simply the Spirit of God which starts being described in the third sentence of the first chapter of Genesis. The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity--Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit typically refers to supernatural abilities bestowed upon a believer.

gifts of the spirit is given to us; fruits of the spirit is what comes later if we have used the gift properly. example, the family down the street gave me an apple tree as a gift. i planted it in good ground as it grew i had many apples to eat years later. according to the book of luke chater 11,vrs 13 god gives the gift of the holy spirit. it ,therefore, is logical the we should produce fruit for god after receiving such a great gift. hope this answer helps

God is a holy ghost?

First you must ask yourself "What is the difference between Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit ?" They are both the same. Now if you read in John 4:24 it says...God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. KJV The bible also tells us that God is Holy 1 Peter 1:16 "Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." KJV Thus answers that not only God is a Holy Ghost but is the Holy Ghost/Spirit (it's interchangeable)

What are the requirements to become a member of the Apostolic Church of God if you have been baptized in the name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost and you are saved?
