The similiarities between The Lion King and The Odyssey are that:
They both involve animals, animal society as man imagines it, and violence. And they both are set into wilderness wherein a child loses his parent to death at young age. Also, the main characters are referred to as a "prince", the animals of their natural habitat gather to see their birth, and they fall in love with their childhood friends. The endings of those movies are similar as the animals gather to see the birth of the main character's children.
The similiarities between The Lion King and The Odyssey are that:
Simba is very comparable to Odysseus as they were both royal figures who were away from home for a long period of time and must return home to regain their rightful status among their people. Penelope's suitors can be compared to Scar as Scar unrightfully took Simba's rightful place while the suitors tried to take Odysseus's rightful place, but they were both defeated by the protagonist. Penelope can be compared to Simba's family as they believe Odysseus and Simba were dead.
Both the protagonists' are the prince of a kingdom -Hamlet is the prince of Denmark and Simba the prince of Pride Lands in Africa.
Both the protagonists' fathers are killed by their uncle- Hamlet's father, King Hamlet, is killed by his uncle, Claudius, as Claudius poisons King Hamlet. In The Lion King, Simba's father, Mufasa, is killed by Scar when he throws Mufasa off a cliff, and into a wildebeest stampede.
Both the protagonists' uncles usurp the throne - After King Hamlet dies, Claudius becomes king and uses Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to kill his nephew, Prince Hamlet. After Mufasa dies, Scar tells the hyena to kill Simba when he tells him "to run and never return." Both fail to kill Hamlet and Simba.
Both the protagonists' fathers appear to their sons as a ghost - At the beginning of the play, King Hamlet's ghost appears to his son telling him to avenge his death. However, Mufasa appears as a ghost to his son, Simba, telling him to take his rightful place as king.
Both uncles try to kill their nephews the same they did to their brothers - In The Lion King, when Simba confronts Scar before the battle, Scar tries to kill Simba by pushing him off the edge of Pride Rock mirroring how he killed his brother, Mufasa. At a dinner table in Hamlet, King Claudius puts poison in Prince Hamlet's cup hoping to poison his nephew the same way he poisoned his brother, King Hamlet.
Both protagonists defeat their uncles - Simba defeats, but doesn't kill, his uncle, Scar while Hamlet kills his uncle by stabbing him with a sword.
