The novel is not strictly speaking Science Fiction any more than say(Dragnet) or (Airport) would be considered sci-Fi possibly advanced present technology- in this c ase the nroe technical crime-lab aspects of Dragnet. ATW is not, as stated a science fiction novel and is totally unlike the advanced technology novels such as his two Moon Novels, ( the count-up procedure on the Carbide cannon is very interesting) and 20,oo Leagues, Journey to the Center of the Earth. Around the World ( i never did like that title, somehow sounds childish. The various cinematic and song angle well, intentionally diluted the plot down to a Unicef ambassador lever. ATw also introduces the subject matter of gambling. Bookmakers figure inthe plot.
