A red blood cell is a single structure that is biconcave in shape.

A never cell has a body and a structure that extends from the body called the axon.

This is the reason why the red blood cell looks different from the nerve cell.

Why are cells shaped a particular way?

every cell is shaped a particular way because every cell is specialized to do different jobs. every cell needs different cell parts to do their different jobs. and their different shapes help them do different jobs too. for example, a blood cell has a nice round shape because it helps them roll through different parts of the body easier. and a nerve cell has fine nerve hairs because it makes it easier to transport information through the hairs.

What shape are cells?

Cells come in different shapes depending on what they are, such as a red blood cell, it resembles a doughnut with a center depression on each side. Certain white blood cells, called neutrophils and macrophages, can change shape to enable them to engulf microbes that invade the body. Nerve cells range in length from less then 1 mm to long enough to span the distance from just above your waist to your toes.
