the astronauts load the rubbish into empty supply ships, send them into the atmosphere, and destroy them.

Liquid waste (urine) was collected in a Urine Collection Device, used in common by the crew of an Apollo spacecraft. Roll-on cuffs provided personal sanitary protection for the astronauts using the collection device. The urine was then transferred through the Urine Transfer Tube to a tank, from which the liquid waste was vented into space. Fecal matter was sealed in a Fecal Bag with a liquid germicide and sealed again in an outer bag. This solid waste was then placed into a Sanitation Box built into the spacecraft.
No effects. Waste is not sent into space and no one lives there.
There is no gravity in space, so water in a bowl doesn't really work for toilets in space as it does on earth. Rather, NASA used the force of air to dispose waste. They developed a toilet for zero gravity using vacuums. Hoses may be used for urine, but the toilet itself also uses a suction system. Straps hold the astronaut's feet to the floor while a folding bar keeps him/her on the toilet. After the process, the wipes are disposed by a separate contraction. What is done with the waste? The solids are compressed and stored on the craft while the liquids are vented into space.

Clinical waste must be disposed of in a careful manner due to the toxicity of some of the medication used in the medical field. In addition, there is a risk of spreading disease if medical waste is not carefully disposed of.
Different waste materials are stored and disposed of in different ways depending on what kind of material it is. Depending on what material the waste is, it will be put in different holding containers and disposed of in different places.

Nuclear waste is not easily disposed. It goes an abundance of processes to conclude in it becoming 98% less "Radioactive". This Waste is then formed into a childrens "Sweetie" called Toxic Waste. No deaths have yet resulted in this.
