It's not a poem, it is a sarcastic and unduly pessimistic speech given in a play by a clinically depressed aristocrat, as a response to another character giving the optimistic view that no badly off we think we are, there are others who are worse off. The response is that everybody is just walking through a predetermined role anyway, so how can you make a difference between them?

Anyway, as impressive as the speech is, it isn't really true. If "all the men and women" are merely players, then how come Jaques focusses exclusively on the men and doesn't talk about the women? In order to make his point, he suggests that everybody goes through the same stages in life, which is ridiculous when you think of it. People's life experiences are much more varied than he suggests, and not everyone gets to the seventh stage. It's not particularly "wise" at all.

Wisdom is shown in the poem "The Seven Ages of Man" by William Shakespeare as one of the stages of human development. It is depicted as the fifth age, where an individual is characterized by experience, maturity, and a reflective understanding of life's complexities. This stage reflects a person's ability to impart knowledge and guidance to others based on their accumulated wisdom.
