For at least 30 mi but suprisingly enough they acually have to breath air to live but can 'hold their breath' for 30 straight minutes
The Humoback whale can stay under water for 15 to 20 minutes max Because they are mammals to and can't hold their breath for very long.

forever if it really wants to because it can breath through his mouth and his spout so if it holds its breath forever it wont die because air goes throughout his spout even when he holds his breath he gains air to breath
