This problem is a big hassle, because combustion takes place when gas, air and spark mix and combust, this pushes the piston in a downward motion and thereby gives you acceleration (which causes the car to go forward). The first problem is that the coolant is water-based, and this will greatly reduce the combustion process, possibly extinguishing the combustion altogether... whereby causing you to run on 5 cylinders instead of 6. The second major concern is that water can cause the combustion chamber to rust. In the onset, the *leak*that is causing coolant to go into the combustion chamber is either a faulty headgasket, or a crack in the engine block from overheating. As the leak worsens (IT WILL NOT GET BETTER ON ITS OWN), the coolant will mix with the oil down in the oil pan, and then the water/coolant will get recirculated within the engine block and possibly cause rusting in the rest of the engine (sooner than later). 2 things that convolute your oil are dirt and water. Dirt is usually taken care of with every 3000 miles oil change, but water (if enough) can cause your engine to overheat, and then the engine block too crack worse or even sieze, and then a siezed engine could cost $1,500.00 to $3,000.00 to replace. A headgasket replacement is $500.00 to $800.00 (shop around for price). You might end up having to buy a different used vehicle if it is cheaper than a new engine block, depending upon your budget.

What does it mean when your car has white smoke coming out of the front driver side it smell like burning rubber and it won't wont speed up as fast as it used to onn the highway?

White smoke is a sign of coolant entering the combustion chamber or leaking onto the exhaust and burning. Coolant in the combustion chamber is almost always cause by a blown head gasket or cracked head. This will destroy your engine if you continue to drive it.

Is it safe to drive a car when it is leaking coolant?

No, you run the risk of destroying the motor.

Is it safe to drive with wrong coolant?

If only adding coolant to a leaking system it is safe because soon you will be forced to drain the coolant and fix a problem

Why is there heavy bluish gray smoke coming out of your exhaust?

Blue smoke is a symptom of oil burning. Grey or white smoke is a symptom of coolant entering the combustion chamber. Oil is getting into the combustion chamber where it is being burnt. Can be worn piston rings, or a broken ring. Coolant may also be entering the combustion chamber due to a blown head gasket, cracked head, or both. Your problem may be just a blown head gasket. Seek professional help immediately and stop driving this car until you have it repaired. If you continue to drive it you may destroy the engine depending on exactly what the problem is.

You keep getting large poofs of steam from the intake area of my1994 Seville sts northstar it does smell like coolant and is coming from under the intake cover area around the throtle body Any ideas?

Stop driving this car immediately. Take it to a professional. You have an intake plenum that is possibly leaking or is cracked. Severe engine damage can occur if you continue to drive this car. Coolant can enter the combustion chamber which will destroy this engine.

What does white smoke from tailpipe and smell of gasoline mean?

White smoke from the exhaust is a sign of coolant entering the combustion chamber. You are smelling gasoline because the coolant is mixing with the fuel in the combustion chamber of one or more cylinders and causing a misfire. The excess fuel is going out the tailpipe with the coolant as white smoke. Sorry to say but you have a blown head gasket, cracked head, or intake manifold gasket leak. STOP driving this vehicle until you can have this repaired. Serious engine damage will occur if you continue to drive this car. Have it repaired ASAP.

What kind of car does tony dungy drive?

Is it safe to drive your car if engine coolant has leaked out?

It will be safe to drive short distance as long as the car does not over heat. You can top up the engine coolant or use water/coolant mixture till you fix the problem which could be leaking hose pipe. leaking radiator or faulty radiator cap

Can it hurt to drive your car with white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe?

Yes it will hurt and hurt severely. White smoke is almost always a sign of a blown head gasket or cracked head. Coolant is entering the combustion chamber and is also entering the oil system. You will destroy this engine if you continue to drive it in this condition.

94 Buick century leaking water change pump and thermo but still leaking?

Leaking or loosing coolant? If it is leaking then where is the leak? If it is just loosing coolant with no apparent leak, then you more than likely have a blown head gasket or cracked head. If there is coolant in the oil, or white sweet smelling smoke coming from the exhaust you definitely have an internal problem. Serious engine damage will occur if you continue to drive this vehicle.

Why does white smoke come out of the exhaust system when you first start the car up?
