I have eaten Venison that I had frozen for up to 1 year. I had it wrapped tight and sealed in an airtight plastic bag. (seal a meal) It was good. You have to keep the air out so it wont get freezer burn and if it thaws out, don't refreeze it. By the time I eat it all it's hunting season again. Good huntin! Keep yer powder dry! Frozen venison could be good anywhere from 6 months to a year. See Related Links.
Venison and other game meats can be left in a freezer for any length of time, The meat does not spoil to where it is hazardous it long term meat freezing only deminishes the quality of the meat, I have personaly ate Venison that has been in my freezer for 4 years, As long as there has never been a power outage and the meat has always stayed frozen it is fine, But the quality of it may not be as good as the day you tagged the animal.
One year befor it starts turning color. Longer if you freez in in a water so the bottom does not touch the shelf. that keeps it from freezer burn.
it's in the freezer...why does it matter
Raw meat, whether venison or beef or any other type, can be frozen once. If frozen raw meat is thawed, it should be cooked and eaten, or cooked and refrozen. Once cooked venison is thawed it should not be refrozen.
