Those hiding in the annex were there from July 6, 1942 until August 4, 1944. Two years and one month. Now, if you mean the actual "attic" of the Annex, it was Anne's retreat from the others in the house, and as time went on, she spent as much time there as she could afford to.

life was horrible for the Franks, the attic was so small everybody knew everybody's business. what they were going to say next, what was the answer to everybody's questions and jokes. At first Peter Van Dann and Anne Frank didn't get along very well, until they had been talking a lot more.
