Neil Armstrong walked on the surface for 2hours 36minutes and 40seconds.

Buzz Aldrin walked on the surface approximately 20minutes less than Neil.

The Segment which launched the astronauts back into Lunar orbit was on the surface for 21hours 36minutes and 21seconds.

And the descent stage is still on the Lunar surface today.

What role did the lunar module play in the Apollo 13 mission?

An explosion caused the Apollo Spacecraft (the Command Module) to lose electrical power generation. It could operate for a while on batteries but they were needed for reentry and would not last that long. So, the crew powered down the Command Module and moved into the Lunar Module. Since they were on the way to the moon when the explosion occurred they had to continue to the moon, swing around it and eturn to Earth. The crew stayed in the Lunar Module until nearing time to reenter. Had the not had the Lunar Module as a place of safety they would not have survived.

How long does it take for a lunar module to reach the moon?

3 Days.

How Long was the Apollo 11 Mission on the surface of the moon for?

The lunar module landed at 20:17 on July 20th and took off at 17:54 on July 21st. This represents 21 hours and 37 minutes duration.

How long does it generally take to reach moon from the earth in a manned spacecraft?

Each Apollo mission that delivered a command module to the vicinity of the moon, whether or not there was a lunar landing, took about 3 days to get there and 3 days to return to earth.

What aircraft did Neil Armstrong go to the moon in?

It was a 'spacecraft' and not an 'aircraft'! He travelled with Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins in Apollo 11. ===================================== The three of them lived in the Apollo 11 "Command Module" for the long ride in both directions between the earth and the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the moon's surface in the 'LEM' or Lunar Excursion Module, while Collins continued to orbit the moon alone in the Command Module. It all happened in July of 1969.

How long was Apollo 11's crew quarantined?

The Apollo 11 astronauts entered quarantine immediately after landing on July 24, 1968 in an Airstream trailer and later the Lunar Receiving Laboratory. Quarantine ended on August 13, 1969.

How did Armstrong get back from the moon?

The lunar lander, Eagle, was divided into 2 sections. The bottom half, called the Descent Stage contained the fuel for descent and landing on the moon. It also contained most of the water and oxygen used on the moon by the astronauts. The top half, called the Ascent Stage, was the part that lifted off from the moon. The Ascent Stage also doubled as the astronaut's home while on the moon. After achieving orbit, the commander, who, in the case of Apollo 11, was Neil Armstrong, docked with the Command/Service Module that orbited the Moon while the astronauts walked on the surface. The Apollo 11 CSM was manned by Michael Collins. After transferring all the lunar samples and astronauts into the CSM, the LM was jettisoned. The 3 men continued orbiting the moon for one more day. On the back side of the moon, Michael Collins told the onboard computer where they were in space and how long to fire the Service Module engine. After the 4 minute burn, the astronauts left lunar orbit and were on their way back to earth. The Service Module engine wasn't very big or powerful. It only needed to have enough power to get them out of lunar orbit and into the gravitational pull of the earth. Once under the influence of earth's gravity, they fell back to earth and landed in the Pacific Ocean after 8 days in space.

What phase is it best to land on the moon waxing or waning?

It wouldn't really matter. The Apollo astronauts landed so that the Sun would be high in the sky but not straight overhead while they were on the Moon. And since none of the lunar missions were more than a few days long, they weren't there long enough for it to really matter. For a permanent lunar base, we'll need to be able to survive not only during the lunar day, which is 14 days long, but also during the lunar NIGHTS which are ALSO 14 days long.
