Buzz Aldrin went to train at NASA
Honestly, decades. Even before he was an astronaut, he had years of training as a civilian pilot, then a military pilot, then a test pilot--all of these experiences helped in various ways to his selection by NASA as an astronaut. Neil became an astronaut in the early 1960's; of course this training helped specifically. It was probably around 1967 when all Apollo astronauts began generalized training for lunar missions; and then specific training for any particular mission, a year or more.
She was already interested in science when she answered a newpaper ad and was chosen to train for the space program out of 8000 applicants.
Before you can land on the moon, or even survive in space or the space craft, you need years and years of training. Also, you need special suits which only places like NASA have. So you need to become an astronaut before you can train to get the qualifications to fly to outer space. Hope it helped!

where did John Glenn train give me the location
No u do not need to go up into space to be an astronaut. Actually many astronauts train and train but don't get to go up in space.

they need to train in lots of zero gravity and engineering
Buzz Aldrin went to train at NASA
It takes about 8 years to train for one mission. This is not training to be an astronaut, its training just for one mission. Example: It took 8 year for Reberta Bondar to train for a mission that took 8 days.
