How long before you can swim after you get your belly button pierced?

i got my navel pierced like 2 and a half years ago now and thay said you sould wait up to 6 monthes or compleatly healed that includes no tanning cause it can cause infection, burning and iratation to the skin you also souldnt eat fatning foods like pork or fried food that can cause infection but for swimming it sould be 6 monthes. Six months. That is the safest amount of time to wait. You might be able to get away with 5 or 4, but be safe and stick to six and give it time to heal properly. Navel piercings are very easily infected.

I should think so. My friend just got her belly button pierced two weeks ago and we went swimming the other day. Ask yourself this: is it safe to go swimming right after getting your ears pierced?

Well from researching for this answer I found:

Although this is not a medical opinion, salt water should be okay, just keep it clean afterwards. But stay out of the pool: chlorine and healing wounds vulnerable to infection are a bad mix. Also, lakes, rivers and oceans do contain quite a bit of bacteria. I would recommend waiting about 4-6 weeks after the piercing was done to soak your piercing in such a body of water. Chlorine may irritate as well.

It depends on where you want to swim. If it is a pool, I'd say 4 weeks at least. But your piercing may become irritated from the chlorine. When it comes to swimming in public pools or lakes i would advise at least 2 months because of the bacteria Also clean the piercings after you are done swimming just to be on the safe side!

I wouldn't recommend a swimming pool afterwards because of the chlorine, but the ocean is fine as it is a natural healer (all the salt water) it may sting though.
