However the longer you have been taken it the longer it take to work, ive been on it for 10 years and now takes about 30 min to kick in but only lasts about 2 hrs instead of the 4 hrs it is ment to.

I'm not really sure but I'm guessing 15-20 minutes. I guess it depends which painkiller you're taking. I take paracetamol.
