It depends.... A first-class letter should arrive in its immediate area within a day or two, depending on what time of day it was mailed and what post office box was used. (However, one person sent me four letters from a town twenty miles away, and each one took nine to ten days to arrive, between the letters' postmark dates and the arrival dates.) At a greater distance, several more days may be required. First class mail sent overseas can take 2-6 weeks, or even 2-3 months if being sent to a third-world country where delivery is not even assured. If you're sending something overseas and you want it to arrive in 5-10 days, send it by airmail. However, all first class mail in the U.S. that is travelling to a distant U.S. city goes by air, so airmail postage within the U.S. is not needed.
