Actually, how long it takes for erosion to happen depends upon what is being eroded and what it doing the eroding. A sloping field or yard without ground cover can be heavily eroded in one rain storm. A granite mountain will take eons.

It depends entirely on specific conditions, such as what is being eroded, what the environment is where the item to be eroded is located, and how much it is exposed. For example, the Cleopatra's Needles survived without any erosion in Egypt for millenia, but eroded almost immediately when brought to New York, London, and Paris. The wetter climate in Europe and the US led to stone eroding much more easily, even though it was no more exposed in Europe and the US as opposed to Egypt.

How cold does it have to be for an erosion to happen?

Erosion due to cold temperatures will happen at 32 F or below, as long as the temperature eventually risies above 32 F. This is erosion due to the freeze-thaw cycle. There are also forms of erosion that result from weather and from water movement, and these forms can occure at any temperature, warm or cold.

Weathering and erosion very rarely takes minuets for weathering and erosion to take effect. It usually takes millions of years for a rock to get weathered and eroded.

Must weathering happen before erosion?

Yes, because weathering must happen first so that when the weathering breaks down the rock into smaller pieces, erosion can take place and carry the pieces down by means of transportation.
