When they first open the eyes should be protected from bright light, they have very limited vision at first and basically can just see light and shadow. They are also born deaf, with ear canals closed. They begin to hear at about 10 days. Actually it takes anywhere from 1-2 weeks for the puppies to open there eye's! Average is about 9 day's old!
