Years to Become a Physician

It typically takes four years of under graduate school to obtain your bachelor's then an additional 4 years of medical school then several years of internships before you can use the title of M.D. On average it can take up to 12 years to reach this goal. Keep in mind that doctors all always required to do ongoing education so that thier well of knowledge is current. They have to attend yearly classes, inservices, training and seminars. To be a hundred percent truthful even after you get your medical degree you never finish with school. It is always an ongoing process. Check with your state's medical board or local college to find out exactly how long it takes to become certified in your state, each state varies; but not by much. I have never heard of someone obtaining a medical degree in less than 10 years.

doctor

3-7 years and then another 3 to speciallise.

It usually takes about 6 to 7 years of careful studying in the medical school. It would be a wise choice to be a doctor, because if you are a good student you will be a good doctor and you will become immensly rich.

It would take four years for The Bachelor's degree with completion of all prerequisite coursework required by medical schools and four years of medical school. While many individuals who pursue a career as a physician major in Biology at the undergraduate level, many others come from a variety of other educational backgrounds. You should meet with a career counselor at the college or university you attend for what options exist for you. The important issue is acquiring the appropriate prerequisites required for medical school. The student should have a strong background in the following areas.

  • Biology (cell biology, biology of the organism)
  • Chemistry (inorganic, organic)
  • Physics
  • Communication (written and oral)
  • Higher level math's
  • Computer literacy
  • Development of good critical thinking skills.

Following the bachelor's degree, would be four years of medical school to obtain the MD or DO degree. There will also be an additional three or more years to complete the internship and residency requirements depending on the specialty.
