The length of time it will take you to kayak 23 miles depends on two factors: 1) The speed at which you paddle. 2) The speed of the current. Depending on your fitness level and the type and length of kayak you are paddling, you may average from 1 to 3.5 miles per hour paddling speed. However, I would not estimate more than 3 mph over that distance. that assumes a fairly long boat and mostly continuous paddling. The speed of a river's current can vary widely from river to river, season to season, and place to place. A slow river may only go 1/4 to 1/2 miles per hour. A moderately fast one may run 4 MPH or more. A narrow river with many rapids may run even faster. Once you determine how fast you will paddle and how fast the river is running, you can calculate the duration for your paddle. If you paddle slowly at 1 mph and the river is a lazy one it could take you 20 hours or more. If you paddle vigorously and you're in a moderately fast river your journey may take less than 4 hours.

Well this usually depends on how much muscle you have in your arms. First off, figure out if you will be kayaking upstream or just riding on the flow of the river/lake. You also have to think about how long you actually want to kayak. Usually you can get pretty far in three hours, especially if your on a calm river. It all really depends on how far you are willing to go. On average, I'd say a normal person could probably go a few miles if they're on a calm, flowing river.
